Roan Antelope
The majestic Roan Antelope is an African native that thrives in grasslands. They can be found in West, Central and Southern Africa and of course, right here at Berryhill! The Roan antelope is the largest species in the antelope family. They breed year round but births are rare during a drought or in a dry season. When a young male reaches sexual maturity, around age three, he will be evicted from the herd. He will join a herd of up to 10 young bachelors’ until he can win the position of a dominant male in a female herd.
The horns of the Roan are very similar to that of the Sable, both arch backward slightly. Though the Roan's horn can reach up to three feet in length! Females will have slightly shorter horns.
